Gold prices fluctuate amid U.S. inflation and Won strength
Domestic gold prices in South Korea experienced a slight decline on the 28th, despite an upward trend in international gold markets. This divergence is attributed to a strengthening Korean Won, driven by the Bank of Korea's interest rate decisions and the influx of negotiation volumes from exporters at the end of the month.
On the international stage, gold prices have seen significant movement. While demand for gold is supported by concerns over rising U.S. national debt and potential currency debasement, persistent inflation remains a limiting factor. U.S. Core Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) rose 3.3% year-on-year, exceeding the Federal Reserve's 2% target.
Market participants are closely monitoring upcoming communications, specifically the Jackson Hole speech by Fed Chair Jerome Powell, for signals regarding future interest rate paths and inflation management.
