Pakistan economy: Rupee gains continue as IMF deal and commodity shifts occur

Pakistan's economy is seeing significant shifts in currency and commodity markets. The Pakistani rupee has extended a winning streak against the US dollar for 257 consecutive sessions, closing at approximately Rs 277. This stability follows a staff-level agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) regarding the Extended Fund Facility and the Resilience and Sustainability Facility, which could unlock up to $1.2 billion in disbursements.

In the commodities sector, gold prices in Pakistan have experienced volatility, with recent fluctuations seeing 24K gold per tola dropping by Rs 3,100 before seeing slight recoveries. Traders suggest that continued geopolitical uncertainty could drive prices toward the Rs 500,000 level. Similarly, gold and silver rates in India and Dubai have remained largely stable or seen minor shifts influenced by international bullion trends and US Federal Reserve policy.

Fuel prices in Pakistan have also been adjusted, with petrol increasing to Rs 396.65 per litre while High-Speed Diesel saw a slight decrease. These changes come amid rising international oil prices driven by supply concerns in the Middle East. The government has implemented austerity measures, including reduced fuel allocations for official vehicles, to manage the impact of global energy volatility.
