Gold and currency markets face volatility in Afghanistan and Iran
Financial markets in Afghanistan and Iran are experiencing significant volatility in gold and currency values. In Afghanistan, gold prices in Kabul and Herat are fluctuating due to global gold ounce increases and local exchange rate shifts.
In Iran, the price of 18-karat gold has surpassed the 24 million Toman threshold. Simultaneously, the US dollar has risen again in the Tehran free market, exceeding 232,000 Toman per dollar. This surge follows a period of correction and is influenced by expanded US sanctions targeting land-based trade routes. Experts note that shifting trade from maritime to land routes to bypass naval blockades could impose an additional $18 billion in annual costs. Despite the Central Bank's announcement of a $500 million supply, market prices continue to react to high levels.
