USS George Washington begins night flight operations in Arabian Sea

The USS George Washington (CVN-73), a nuclear-powered Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, has commenced night flight operations in the Arabian Sea. US Central Command (CENTCOM) released footage showing American sailors conducting flight deck preparations and aircraft takeoffs and landings under cover of darkness.

The deployment of the USS George Washington is part of a scheduled rotation to replace the USS Abraham Lincoln in the region. This movement occurs amid heightened tensions with Iran and a reinforced US naval presence in the Middle East, where more than 20 US warships are currently active.

CENTCOM reported that these naval operations are supporting the enforcement of a maritime blockade targeting vessels traveling to or from Iranian ports. Since the resumption of the blockade on July 14, US forces have diverted 67 commercial vessels, disabled three ships for non-compliance, and boarded two vessels to ensure adherence to maritime regulations. The US military continues to monitor navigation through the Arabian Sea, the Gulf of Oman, and the Strait of Hormuz.
