Gold prices decline amid Middle East tensions and Federal Reserve policy shifts

Global gold prices have experienced downward pressure as traders evaluate geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and the impact of monetary policy shifts. Spot gold prices fell 0.3% to $4,362.60 per ounce, while US gold futures declined 0.6% to $4,400.20. Market participants are closely monitoring the Federal Reserve's recent quarter-point interest rate hike and potential future tightening cycles, which can reduce gold's appeal relative to yield-bearing assets.

In Egypt, the local gold market has seen fluctuations. On September 21, 21-karat gold was trading at approximately 6,385 EGP per gram. By September 22, prices for 21-karat gold adjusted to approximately 6,330 EGP per gram. The Egyptian market remains sensitive to both global ounce prices and the US Dollar's exchange rate against the Egyptian Pound.

In India, gold and silver prices also showed volatility. On September 22, 24-karat gold prices in various cities reached levels around ₹1,53,000 to ₹1,54,900 per 10 grams, with silver trading near ₹2,39,000 to ₹2,50,000 per kilogram depending on the region.
