Global markets react to Saudi oil disruptions and US Fed rate hike expectations

Global financial markets are reacting to heightened geopolitical tensions and upcoming US monetary policy decisions. In Saudi Arabia, attacks on energy infrastructure have disrupted the East-West Pipeline, leading to the suspension of oil loading operations at Yanbu port. This disruption has contributed to rising oil prices, with Brent crude reaching approximately $107 per barrel.

Investors are closely monitoring the Federal Reserve, with markets pricing in a 92% probability of a 25 basis point interest rate hike. This anticipation, alongside rising US Treasury yields and a stronger dollar, has placed downward pressure on gold prices. Conversely, Citi analysts have projected that silver could reach $90 within the next 6 to 12 months.

In Egypt, the US dollar exchange rate has stabilized around 52 EGP, while foreign exchange reserves rose by $920 million to $57.21 billion in August. Meanwhile, in Sudan, the Finance Minister attributed the Sudanese pound's decline to increased imports and high demand for foreign currency, amid reports of significant volatility in the parallel market.
