Gold prices in Tunisia rise amid global geopolitical tensions

Gold prices in Tunisia have resumed an upward trend following a period of decline, driven by global geopolitical and economic developments. Hatem Ben Youssef, President of the National Chamber of Jewelers, noted that international conflicts, including the Russia-Ukraine war and tensions involving Iran, have reshaped global market dynamics.

Locally, the price of an 18-carat gold gram has risen from approximately 280 dinars to around 320 dinars. Experts forecast a potential 20 percent increase by December, with prices for 18-carat gold in jewelry shops potentially reaching between 480 and 500 dinars.

This upward momentum is supported by significant gold accumulation by central banks, particularly in Asia and China. According to the World Gold Council, net central bank purchases reached 289 tons in the second quarter of 2026, with China alone adding 33 tons during that period. The Tunisian market remains highly sensitive to these global fluctuations and the exchange rate of the dinar against the US dollar.
