Gold prices in Vietnam decline amid global market volatility
Gold prices in Vietnam experienced significant volatility and downward trends during early October 2026. SJC gold bars saw prices adjust by approximately 600,000 VND per tael, settling around the 140.5 - 143.5 million VND/tael range at major retailers including SJC, DOJI, and PNJ.
On the international market, spot gold prices fluctuated around 4,140 USD per ounce. The downward pressure on global gold prices is attributed to rising US Treasury yields and a strong US Dollar. Despite weak US employment data, which initially raised hopes that the Federal Reserve might pause interest rate hikes, high bond yields continue to increase the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets like gold.
Market analysts remain divided on future trends. While some technical indicators suggest continued downward pressure, others suggest that if US Treasury yields peak, gold could see a recovery. The widening gap between domestic and international gold prices remains a key point of concern for local investors.
