Pakistan markets see rupee gains and gold surge amid stock index decline
Pakistan's financial markets experienced mixed results on October 9, 2026. The Pakistani rupee (PKR) continued a long-term trend against the US dollar, marking its 258th consecutive daily gain. As of the latest session, the rupee closed at 277.00 against the dollar, though it showed weakness against the British pound, euro, Australian dollar, and Canadian dollar.
In the commodities sector, gold prices in Pakistan surged significantly, following a recovery in international bullion rates. The price of 24-karat gold rose by Rs 5,900 per tola to reach Rs 440,936.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Stock Exchange's benchmark KSE-100 index ended the day in negative territory. Despite an early session gain of over 600 points, the index faced late-session downward pressure, eventually settling at 167,089 points, a loss of 352 points from the previous close.
