Gold smuggling attempt foiled at Dhaka airport with 14kg seized
Authorities at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport seized approximately 14 kilograms of gold, consisting of 120 gold bars, from a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight arriving from Dubai via Chittagong. The seizure occurred on Saturday following specific intelligence regarding a potential smuggling attempt.
Security personnel apprehended a technical helper identified as Sajib after he attempted to flee upon noticing the increased surveillance. Following his capture, a search of the aircraft led to the recovery of the gold, which has an estimated market value of approximately 285.7 million BDT.
The suspect and the seized gold are currently in the custody of customs authorities. An investigation is underway to determine if the individual was part of an organized smuggling ring and to identify any other accomplices involved in the operation.
