Gold smuggling incidents reported in Bangladesh

Authorities in Bangladesh have intercepted two separate gold smuggling attempts. In Meherpur, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two individuals, identified as Md Asadul and Md Juel Hossain, while attempting to smuggle 32 gold bars into India. The seized gold, weighing 3.941 kilograms, has an estimated market value of approximately Tk 7.35 crore.

In a separate incident, a Bangladeshi court granted a seven-day remand for two Chinese nationals, Chen Liun and Mo Xiaoyu, accused of attempting to smuggle 12 kg of gold paste. The individuals allegedly attempted to pass through customs at an airport after traveling from Dubai, with the gold paste concealed within specially stitched clothing. Officials from the National Security Intelligence and Directorate General of Forces Intelligence were present during the recovery of the substance, which preliminary assessments suggest is 24-carat gold.
