Gold treasure worth $330,000 found in Czech mountains

Two hikers discovered a significant cache of gold and valuables hidden in the Krkonoše Mountains in the Czech Republic. The find, located near Mount Zvičina, consists of approximately 7 kg of items, including 598 gold coins, 16 gold cigarette cases, 10 bracelets, a silver mesh handbag, and other personal effects.

The gold coins, which date from 1808 to 1915, were found organized into eleven bundles wrapped in black cloth inside an aluminum container. Numismatist Vojtěch Brádle noted that some coins bear Balkan markings from Serbia and Bosnia, adding a layer of mystery to the origin of the hoard.

The finders turned the items over to the Museum of East Bohemia in Hradec Králové. While initial estimates valued the treasure at 7.5 million Czech koruna, more detailed analysis suggests the value is closer to 11.7 million Czech koruna. The identity of the original owner remains unknown.
