Goldberg unveils talking drum installation atop Cocoa House

Goldberg Lager has unveiled a monumental talking drum installation atop Cocoa House in Ibadan, Nigeria. The 26-storey landmark, completed in 1965 and financed by the Western Region’s cocoa trade, serves as a historic symbol of indigenous enterprise.

As part of the ‘Our Beat. Our Gold.’ platform, the installation celebrates Yoruba culture and heritage. The drum is designed to come alive every hour with a rendition of Omolúàbí, followed by the chime of the hour, honoring Yoruba values such as character, respect, and community pride.

Abdulrahman Yinusa, Group Managing Director and CEO of Odu’a Investment Company, described the addition as a new chapter for the building, stating that the installation crowns the landmark with a symbol of Yoruba civilization. The project aims to connect the historical significance of the skyscraper with the cultural importance of the talking drum, which traditionally communicates messages, proverbs, and announcements through rhythm and pitch.
