Golden apple snail shell powder tested as biocoagulant for water treatment
Research conducted at Universitas Islam Negeri Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh has evaluated the effectiveness of golden apple snail (Pomacea canaliculata) shell powder as a biocoagulant for river water treatment.
The study aimed to reduce Total Suspended Solids (TSS) and turbidity to improve water quality for clean water needs. Results indicated that an optimal dose of 1.5 g/L for TSS removal achieved a reduction of 73.8% at a stirring speed of 120 rpm. For turbidity reduction, an optimal dose of 0.5 g/L at a stirring speed of 150 rpm yielded a reduction of up to 90.3%. The findings suggest that snail shell powder serves as a viable natural alternative for the coagulation-flocculation process.
