Golden Axe animated series Sega Paramount+ video game adaptation

Paramount+ has released the first trailer for Golden Axe, a new 10-episode animated comedy series based on the classic 1989 Sega arcade franchise. The series is scheduled to premiere on September 16, 2026, with all episodes released simultaneously.

Created by Mike McMahan and Joe Chandler, the adaptation adopts a self-aware, meta-humor tone that parodies video game conventions. The plot follows veteran warriors Ax Battler, Tyris Flare, and Gilius Thunderhead as they reunite to protect the realm of Yuria from the villain Death Adder. They are joined by a new character, Hampton Squib, an inexperienced adventurer.

The voice cast includes Matthew Rhys as Gilius Thunderhead, Liam McIntyre as Ax Battler, Lisa Gilroy as Tyris Flare, Danny Pudi as Hampton Squib, and Carl Tart as Chronos “Evil” Lait. The series is produced by CBS Studios, Sony Pictures Television, and Sega, with animation provided by Titmouse.
