Golden Dawn influence reported in Greek schools
Concerns regarding the resurgence of Golden Dawn influence in Greek schools have emerged following several incidents in Megara and Heraklion. In Megara, the Parents and Guardians Association of the 1st Primary School received a donation for school repairs from Ilias Kasidiaris, a convicted leader of the criminal organization Golden Dawn. The donation sparked backlash, leading the local Teachers' Association to reject the contribution and demand that the municipality fulfill its responsibility for school infrastructure.
In Heraklion, the Secondary Education Teachers' Association (ELME) reported two separate incidents involving students. In one case, students allegedly bullied a classmate with racist and xenophobic remarks during a discussion about the anniversary of Pavlos Fyssas's murder. In a second incident at a festival, a group of minors reportedly shouted Golden Dawn slogans and demanded the removal of a Palestinian flag. ELME has called for increased anti-fascist educational activities to combat these ideologies within schools.
