Golden State Warriors explore LeBron James acquisition and roster upgrades
The Golden State Warriors are reportedly serious about signing free‑agent LeBron James this summer and are also considering a trade for two‑time Defensive Player of the Year Kawhi Leonard. The proposed package would send Jimmy Butler and rookie Brandin Podziemski to the Los Angeles Clippers, allowing the Warriors to free up salary space with the mid‑level exception.
The plan, first detailed on the Let’s Go Warriors Substack, aims to surround Stephen Curry, whose career is entering its twilight years, with additional star talent. Former NBA Finals rival Tristan Thompson praised Curry, saying, “Steph Curry is the best point guard who ever played.” Fellow former opponent Jeff Jefferson added, “For me, it's Magic Johnson and then Steph.” Warriors management is expected to use its assets to build a roster capable of contending even if injuries limit Curry’s availability.
These rumors highlight the franchise’s need to upgrade its roster beyond the aging core of Curry, Draymond Green and other veterans as it seeks to remain competitive in the Western Conference.
