Golden State Warriors sign Kristaps Porzingis to two‑year, $40 million deal
Kristaps Porzingis has agreed to a two‑year contract extension with the Golden State Warriors valued at $40 million. The agreement guarantees roughly $3 million in each season, but gives the franchise the right to waive the player by July 7 without paying the full salary for the second year, leaving only a $3 million buyout. The structure provides the Warriors with roster and salary‑cap flexibility, allowing them to retain a versatile rim protector or use him as a trade asset.
The deal comes as Golden State seeks to improve a frontcourt that lacked size during a 37‑45 season that missed the playoffs. With Draymond Green declining his $27.7 million player option, the Warriors have additional cap space, though the Porzingis contract may limit use of the $15 million non‑tax mid‑level exception. The signing is also linked to broader free‑agency speculation surrounding possible moves for LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Porzingis, 30, averaged 16.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 15 games after being traded to Golden State in February. The Warriors view his interior presence and defensive versatility as key to returning to championship contention.
