Kristaps Porzingis signs two‑year $40 million extension with Golden State Warriors
The Golden State Warriors have reached a deal with Latvian big man Kristaps Porzingis for a two‑year contract worth $40 million, including a player option for the second season. The agreement was confirmed by Porzingis’ agent Jeff Schwartz and reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania before the player’s free‑agency window opened.
Porzingis, acquired from the Atlanta Hawks at the February trade deadline, appeared in 15 games for Golden State last season, averaging 16.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 24 minutes. His contributions were limited by injuries and the postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) that has affected his availability over the past two years.
The extension represents a pay cut from Porzingis’ prior $60 million deal with the Boston Celtics, but provides the Warriors with a stretch‑big who can score from the perimeter and protect the rim when healthy. The team, seeking to improve its frontcourt after missing the playoffs, has also been linked to pursuits of other stars such as Anthony Davis and LeBron James, but the Porzingis deal secures one of its immediate needs through the 2027‑28 season.
