Goldman Sachs forecasts Egyptian pound gains, says local business leader

Goldman Sachs predicts the Egyptian pound will continue to appreciate against the US dollar, projecting the rate to fall to about 49 EGP per dollar within three months, 48 EGP in six months and 46 EGP in a year. Mohamed Attia Al‑Fayoumi, deputy speaker of the Qalyubia Chamber of Commerce and secretary‑general of the General Federation of Chambers, says the forecast reflects growing confidence from international financial institutions in Egypt’s economic recovery.

Al‑Fayoumi attributes the expected currency strength to factors such as foreign‑exchange supply‑demand dynamics, global interest‑rate trends, capital‑flow movements and regional geopolitical developments. He notes that Egypt’s flexible exchange‑rate regime allows market forces to operate and that the country has diversified sources of external financing—from multilateral lenders to development partners—providing a buffer for any short‑term pressures on the pound.
