Goldman Sachs to acquire NEOS Investments for up to $2.25 billion

Goldman Sachs has agreed to acquire NEOS Investments in a cash-and-equity transaction valued at up to $2.25 billion. The deal, which is subject to regulatory approval, is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027.

Through this acquisition, Goldman Sachs Asset Management will integrate NEOS’s portfolio of 19 options-based income ETFs, which manage approximately $30 billion in assets. This includes three prominent crypto-linked income products: the NEOS Bitcoin High Income ETF (BTCI), the Boosted Bitcoin High Income ETF (XBCI), and the Ethereum High Income ETF (NEHI). The BTCI fund alone manages roughly $1.1 billion in net assets.

These funds utilize options-based strategies, such as covered calls on exchange-traded products, to generate monthly income for investors rather than holding the underlying cryptocurrencies directly. The strategic move follows Goldman Sachs’ recent acquisition of Innovator Capital Management and is intended to expand the firm's footprint in the growing active and derivative-driven ETF market. Upon completion, Goldman Sachs' total global ETF assets are projected to exceed $130 billion, potentially positioning the firm as the eighth-largest active ETF manager.
