Gold‑related crimes spark arrests in Como and Urgnano, Italy
Police in Como arrested two youths after a gold necklace was snatched from a man in Piazza Cavour. The necklace was recovered and returned to its owner; a 19‑year‑old Italian and a 15‑year‑old of Moroccan origin were taken into custody, while two other participants were charged while remaining free.
In Urgnano, Carabinieri stopped a 34‑year‑old Romanian man who attempted to sell a counterfeit gold lingot for €2,600 in cash at the Basella sanctuary. The fake metal bar was found in his pocket, and he was released to the prosecutor after questioning.
Both incidents illustrate a recent wave of gold‑theft and fraud cases addressed by Italian law‑enforcement agencies.
