Goldstream Provincial Park faces sanitation issues after vandalism

Campaigners and local elders have raised concerns regarding the poor maintenance of portable toilets at Goldstream Provincial Park. Visitors reported that the facilities have been overflowing, leading to accusations of inadequate servicing for the hundreds of daily tourists using the park’s day-use area.

The sanitation issues stem from the temporary closure of the park’s permanent washroom buildings. The facilities were shut down in mid-July following significant vandalism to electrical infrastructure, which caused a power failure and left the area without running water.

In response, BC Parks stated they are working with a utilities contractor and an engineer to repair the damage and restore water and power services. Two additional portable toilet units have been added to the site, and the Ministry of Environment and Parks indicated that increased servicing frequency will be implemented if required.
