Golestan Forests restrict tourism during Maral deer rutting season

Authorities in Iran have banned tourists, nature enthusiasts, and off-road drivers from entering sensitive habitats in the Golestan Forests during the Maral deer rutting season. The restriction aims to provide the necessary tranquility for the deer to mate and reproduce without human-induced stress.

Hamid Zohrabi, Deputy for Natural Environment and Biodiversity at the Department of Environment, stated that the rutting season is one of the most critical biological periods for the species. He emphasized that any human activity, particularly commercial tourism tours, that disrupts the natural behavior and reproductive processes of the Maral deer is strictly prohibited.

The ban is intended to prevent disturbances caused by crowds, unnecessary movement, and proximity to habitats. While limited access may be granted to trained personnel for essential conservation monitoring and surveillance, these activities must strictly adhere to protective regulations and prioritize the ecological needs of the species over economic interests.
