Golf tournaments in Nigeria focus on amateur and junior development

Nigeria is seeing a continued emphasis on golf development through major amateur and junior championships. FirstBank of Nigeria Limited has announced its 65th consecutive year of sponsoring the Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship. Scheduled for November at the Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos, the tournament is recognized by the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and serves as a platform for both local and international amateur golfers to earn global ranking points.

In a separate development, the maiden Faldo GolfView Junior Golf Championship 2026 recently concluded at the Ikeja Golf Club. The tournament, supported by the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN), aims to foster grassroots talent. Winners of this junior championship are set to represent Nigeria at the Faldo Junior Golf Championship in Saudi Arabia in April 2027.
