Joaquin Niemann leads first round of Irish Open at Doonbeg

The first round of the Amgen Irish Open at the Trump International Golf Links in Doonbeg was marked by challenging wind conditions and a suspension of play due to darkness. Chilean golfer Joaquin Niemann established an early lead with a five-under 65, setting a new course record under the tournament configuration.

Other notable performances included Rafa Cabrera Bello of Spain, who sat in seventh place at two-under par, and Shane Lowry, who was also at three-under. Jon Rahm remained at par, while defending champion Rory McIlroy finished the day tied for 17th with a one-under 69, hampered by a double bogey on the 13th hole.

Due to the weather and fading light, several players, including Renato Paratore and Adrian Meronk, were unable to complete their full rounds and will finish their play during the second day of the tournament.
