Jessica Bang: Australian golfer dies at 18 in Thailand

Australian professional golfer Jessica Bang has died at the age of 18 in a Bangkok hospital. The rising star, often referred to as ‘Rookie Bang’, passed away on August 13, 2026, following a brain hemorrhage.

Bang collapsed on August 1 while in Thailand preparing for the KLPGA Tour’s International Qualifying Tournament. She was rushed to Synphaet Ramintra Hospital, where she underwent emergency brain surgery and remained on life support in the ICU for approximately two weeks.

The WPGA Tour of Australasia released a statement expressing deep sadness, noting that Bang was an “outstanding young talent who made a significant impression in her short time on the tour.” Having turned professional in November 2025, she had already achieved notable success, including winning the 2026 Ford Women’s NSW Open Regional Qualifying in February, where she set a course record.

Her family initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist with medical expenses and the costs of repatriating her to Australia. The campaign raised significant funds to support her parents during this time.
