Goliath wins the 64th Preis von Europa in Cologne
The six-year-old horse Goliath secured a dominant victory in the 64th Preis von Europa, a Group I race held in Cologne with a prize pool of 155,000 euros. Ridden by Christophe Soumillon and trained by Francis-Henri Graffard, Goliath lived up to his status as the favorite, winning by two and three-quarter lengths.
Dubai Honour, trained by William J. Haggas and traveling from England, finished in second place. The 2025 Derby winner, Hochkönig, took third place under jockey Leon Wolff. While Goliath showed strong acceleration from the front in the final straight, the race for the remaining positions was more competitive.
In contrast to his previous performance at Ascot, Goliath's victory was described by his team as a display of his ability to control a race. The German-bred horse is owned by Resolute Bloodstock and Baron Philip von Ullmann, in association with Gestüt Schlenderhan.
