Golkar holds regional meetings in Batam regarding Election Law revision
The Golkar Party is hosting a technical coordination and guidance session in Batam, Riau Islands, from September 18 to 20, 2026. The event aims to gather input from regional legislators across Northern Sumatra—including Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, and the Riau Islands—regarding the upcoming revision of the Election Law.
Party Chairman Bahlil Lahadalia is expected to open the session. Organizers stated the goal is to ensure the revised Election Law reflects regional aspirations by consulting local representatives who interact directly with the public.
Simultaneously, the Gerakan Kedaulatan Suara Rakyat (GKSR), which includes the Labor Party, has expressed opposition to proposals to raise the parliamentary threshold from 4 percent to 5 percent. GKSR President Said Iqbal argued that such an increase contradicts Constitutional Court decision number 116/PUU-XXI/2023. Instead, the group is proposing a reduction of the parliamentary threshold to 1 percent.
