Golkar Party considers regional elections without deputy heads
The Golkar Party is considering a change to the regional election (Pilkada) format that would eliminate the direct election of deputy regional heads. Golkar Secretary General Muhammad Sarmuji stated that this is one of several options being discussed to improve the local government system.
The primary motivation for this proposal is to reduce frequent conflicts and authority clashes between regional heads and their deputies, a phenomenon observed in many areas. Sarmuji noted that differing interests between these leaders can hinder the effectiveness of local governance.
While the party has not finalized its position, it is exploring various models to minimize such friction. Any potential changes would likely be addressed through revisions to the Pilkada Law, though it remains undecided whether that law will remain independent or be integrated into the Election Law via an omnibus law approach.
