Golkar Party names Prabowo Subianto as 2029 presidential candidate

The Golkar Party has officially declared its support for Prabowo Subianto to run as a presidential candidate in the 2029 Indonesian elections. Ahmad Doli Kurnia, Vice Chairman of Golkar, confirmed the party’s standing position at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta.

While the presidential candidate is set, the party has not yet determined a vice-presidential candidate. Doli noted that the selection of a running mate will be decided closer to the official registration period to allow the party to better assess political dynamics and coalition needs. The final decision on a vice-presidential candidate typically involves discussions with other coalition partners and rests with the presidential candidate themselves.

Doli suggested that the party might consider supporting a repeat of the Prabowo-Gibran pairing, provided the current 2024–2029 administration is successful. Meanwhile, the Gerindra Party expressed appreciation for the support, noting that the aspiration to re-nominate Prabowo is also a strong demand from the party's grassroots members.
