Gombe leaders call for peace ahead of 2027 elections
During Gombe State’s 30th anniversary celebrations, Governor Muhammadu Yahaya called on political leaders, religious figures, and residents to prioritize peace and unity ahead of the 2027 general elections. Yahaya warned that personal and party ambitions must not compromise the state’s development or undermine the progress achieved by successive administrations.
In a separate development, the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Shehu Abubakar III, affirmed that traditional rulers remain non-partisan. Receiving the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, the Emir stated that royal institutions serve all subjects regardless of political or religious affiliation. He pledged the support of traditional authorities in the North-East to encourage peaceful participation and respect for democratic institutions during the upcoming electoral cycle.
