Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has commenced the disbursement of N10.32 billion in gratuity payments to 6,665 state and local government retirees. This initiative is intended to address outstanding retirement liabilities.
The current disbursement includes N6.24 billion for 2,354 state retirees to cover obligations for 2024 and 2025, and N4.08 billion for 4,311 local government retirees across 11 councils. Since taking office in 2019, the Yahaya administration has paid a total of N44.134 billion in gratuities, having inherited over N21 billion in liabilities.
Governor Yahaya noted that the administration has maintained its commitment to clearing these debts despite various economic challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, economic recessions, the Russia-Ukraine war, fuel subsidy removal, and the floating of the naira.
