Gombe State launches statewide livestock vaccination campaign
The Gombe State Government has launched its 2025/2026 statewide vaccination campaign to combat major transboundary animal diseases. The initiative aims to protect livestock, strengthen food security, and safeguard human health by reducing the risk of zoonotic disease transmission.
The campaign targets Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP) and Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in cattle, as well as Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) in sheep and goats. Deputy Governor Manasseh Jatau flagged off the exercise at Tumfure Bashar, calling for cooperation from farmers, traditional institutions, and livestock owners.
To support the sector, the state has established a Ministry of Livestock Development and is implementing several infrastructure projects. These include the renovation of veterinary clinics, the construction of a veterinary diagnostic laboratory, the establishment of a solar-powered cold-chain facility, and the creation of livestock training centres.
