Gombe Women Agenda unveils charter for 2027 elections
Women’s organizations in Gombe State have launched the ‘Gombe Women Agenda,’ an umbrella platform comprising over 100 registered groups. The initiative aims to mobilize stakeholders and secure commitments from political aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.
During a recent stakeholders’ meeting, convener Ibrahim Yusuf presented a proposed charter of demands designed to ensure women’s concerns are integrated into future political programs and policies. The charter includes 10 major pillars and approximately 20 recommendations. Key priorities identified include girls’ education, reducing maternal mortality, women’s economic empowerment, and increasing female participation in political decision-making.
The initiative has deliberately engaged male stakeholders, including religious and traditional leaders from both Islamic and Christian organizations. Yusuf noted that involving men is essential for achieving the agenda’s objectives and ensuring that the proposed demands align with local religious and cultural values.
