Gonçalo Lopes to release book on Storm Kristin impact in Leiria
Gonçalo Lopes, the Mayor of Leiria, will launch a new book titled ‘Kristin – Os Dias que Mudaram Leiria’ (Kristin – The Days that Changed Leiria). The work chronicles the local government's management and the community's response to the Storm Kristin disaster that struck the municipality in early 2026.
The book provides a chronological account of the challenges faced by authorities and the lessons learned to improve future emergency responses. The official presentation is scheduled for November 21 at 17:00 at the Leiria Volunteer Firefighters Headquarters, with Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa expected to attend.
In a charitable gesture, Lopes will donate all author rights and proceeds from book sales to the ‘Reerguer Leiria’ project. This initiative is dedicated to the reforestation of the municipality to aid environmental recovery in the areas affected by the storm.
