Gondhal announces special previews following Oscar selection
The Marathi psychological thriller ‘Gondhal’ is launching a special campaign following its selection as India’s official entry for the 99th Academy Awards. To build momentum for its Oscar bid, the production team has announced special paid previews in several major Indian cities, including Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru.
Directed by Santosh Davakhar and produced by Diksha Davakhar under Davakhar Films, the film draws inspiration from traditional Maharashtrian folk rituals. The story explores human desire and psychological complexities through a cultural lens. The film has previously earned recognition on the festival circuit, including the Silver Peacock for Best Director at the 56th International Film Festival of India and the FIPRESCI Award at the Bengaluru International Film Festival.
Following the initial previews, which will be held in Marathi and Hindi, the film is scheduled for a wider multilingual theatrical release. This rollout is expected to include Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada versions to reach broader linguistic markets.
