Gondomar Municipality allocates 100,000 euros for fuel aid

The Gondomar Municipal Council has approved a 100,000 euro aid package to mitigate the impact of rising fuel costs on essential services. The measure aims to support organizations providing emergency medical services, rescue operations, beneficiary transport, and home care.

Of the total amount, 50,000 euros are allocated to five local Volunteer Firefighter Associations—Areosa-Rio Tinto, Gondomar, Melres, São Pedro da Cova, and Valbom—which will receive 9,500 euros each. An additional 2,500 euros will be granted to the Gondomar/Valongo Delegation of the Portuguese Red Cross.

The remaining 50,000 euros will be distributed among third-sector social institutions that provide services involving beneficiary transport or home assistance. Support will be calculated based on the number of beneficiaries served. The aid program is scheduled to run for six months, from October 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027. Applications for social institutions will be accepted between October 1 and October 20.
