The Hungarian Ministry of Science and Technology has referred the Gondosóra program to the National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (NAIH) for investigation. Zoltán Tanács, the Minister of Science and Technology, stated that the ministry has gathered sufficient evidence to suspect improper handling of personal data.

The investigation follows allegations that Fidesz activists used personal information from the Gondosóra program to contact elderly citizens. Previously, it was disclosed that an agreement existed between the Government Service Center and Fidesz, allowing activists to access data of users over the age of 78 to reach out to them.

Minister Tanács noted that new documents, reports, and information regarding changes to data management notices, as well as records of personal contacts, phone calls, and letters, have come to light. The ministry will provide all relevant documentation to the NAIH to determine exactly what data was involved, who accessed it, whether copies were made, and if the data was linked to other databases or used for purposes outside the original agreement.
