Gong criticizes Croatian Government for targeting opposition on official websites

The civic organization Gong has criticized the official websites of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, stating they should serve to inform citizens rather than being used for the political disqualification of the opposition.

Gong asserts that the government's communication style undermines democracy and political culture in Croatia. The organization highlighted instances where official content characterized opposition initiatives as ‘destructive’ or ‘pamphlets full of lies and fabrications.’ It also noted claims on government sites that opposition parties engage in a ‘policy of obstruction’ or are ‘tragicomic,’ and remarks suggesting the President of the Republic is ‘treating complexes.’

Gong emphasized that while the government has the right to refute opposition claims with facts and documentation, it should not rely on derogatory qualifications. The organization stated, ‘The Government is not a political party, just as the opposition is not an enemy of the state,’ and urged the government to provide relevant data to allow citizens to make their own judgments.
