Gongbei border crossing surpasses 100 million passenger transits
The Gongbei border crossing, which connects Zhuhai in Guangdong province with the Macao Special Administrative Region, has surpassed 100 million passenger transits since the start of the year. This milestone was reached two weeks earlier than the corresponding period in 2025.
According to the Gongbei border inspection station, regular travelers from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao constitute approximately 70% of the total traffic. Foreign passenger crossings have also seen an increase, with nearly 700,000 recorded this year, representing an 11% growth compared to the previous year.
To facilitate movement, eligible travelers who have registered facial and fingerprint data can utilize automated lanes without presenting physical travel documents. Additionally, dedicated lanes are provided for students during peak school commuting hours. On the Macao side, police intend to enhance border control efficiency by introducing iris recognition technology and increasing the number of automated lanes.
