Gongju and Cheongyang host major cultural and historical festivals

The 72nd Baekje Cultural Festival is set to open in Gongju on October 3 and will run for nine days until October 11. Under the theme ‘Bronze Mirror, Illuminating 1,500 Years of Baekje Light,’ the festival features various programs including the ‘Ungjin Fantasia’ performance, which uses LED technology to tell the story of the national treasure bronze mirror, and the ‘Ungjin Fortress Parade’ involving local residents and international students.

Special nighttime events include the ‘Jeopgyeong’ performance at Gongsanseong Fortress to commemorate the 1,500th anniversary of Queen Muryeong’s passing, and the ‘Ungjin Baekje Starlight Garden’ at Geumgang Sin-gwan Park. The festival will also host various musical performances and a drone and fireworks show during the closing ceremony.

In Cheongyang, the Baekje Cultural Experience Museum will celebrate its 10th anniversary on October 9 with the ‘Baekje Autumn Picnic’ event. This program offers historical quizzes, mission tours, and traditional craft experiences such as making Baekje-patterned cups and soap. Additionally, Cheongyang will host the ‘Spicy Alley Festival’ on October 9–10, focusing on local chili peppers and small business participation, and the 65th Citizens' Sports Day on October 1, for which local authorities have conducted safety inspections to prepare for an expected 3,000 participants.
