Gonzaguinha documentary trailer released ahead of Gramado Film Festival

The first trailer for "Gonzaguinha, Da Maior Liberdade," a new documentary directed by Susanna Lira, has been released ahead of its premiere at the 2026 Gramado Film Festival. The film, scheduled for official exhibition on August 20 at the Palácio dos Festivais, explores the artistic and personal life of Luiz Gonzaga Jr., a prominent figure in Brazilian popular music.

Using the artist's songs as a narrative thread, the documentary combines archival footage, historical photographs, and television records. It also features dramatized scenes, including a famous interview with the newspaper Pasquim, with actor André Dale portraying Gonzaguinha. The film delves into themes of identity, freedom of expression, and the singer's political stance during the military dictatorship.

Produced by Modo Operante and distributed by Synapse Distribution, this is noted as the first documentary dedicated exclusively to the musician since his death. The project previously had its international debut at the Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival (LABRFF), where it won the award for Best Narrative Documentary.
