Gonzalo Higueras named illustrious citizen of Piura

The Municipality of Piura will name author and composer Gonzalo Higueras Cortés an illustrious citizen on Thursday, August 13. This recognition coincides with the city's 494th anniversary celebrations.

Higueras will present his seventh novel, ‘Incas y Guayacundos’, on Friday, August 14. The book completes a trilogy focused on the ethnic groups of the Piura region, following his previous works ‘El primer vicús’ and ‘El último tallán’.

The new novel explores the Inca conquest of the Chinchaysuyo region, detailing the expansion led by Túpac Yupanqui and his political dealings with the Guayacundos macro-ethnic group. Higueras stated that his literary and musical works aim to highlight Piura's cultural contributions, which he believes have been overlooked in standard historical accounts.
