PSOE leaders announce election withdrawals and Senate strategy

Several Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) figures have announced changes to their political trajectories ahead of the November 29 general elections. Luis Planas, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, has formally communicated his decision not to run as a candidate for the Congress of Deputies in Córdoba. Planas stated he intends to focus on negotiating and defining agricultural and fisheries policies for the 2028-2034 period, though he remains available to participate in the electoral campaign.

Additionally, Gonzalo Redondo, the current deputy and secretary general of the PSOE in Alcázar de San Juan, has decided not to seek reelection to either the Congress or the Senate. Redondo noted that his priority is to focus his efforts on the development and future of the municipality of Alcázar de San Juan.

Regarding Senate lists, María Jesús Montero has directed that provincial secretaries general who do not hold other long-term institutional positions will lead the Senate lists. In Andalusia, this strategy includes candidates such as Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix in Cádiz, Pedro Fernández in Granada, and José María Martín Fernández in Almería. The move is viewed as a method to protect organic leaders within the party during the upcoming electoral process.
