Poland faces challenges with food waste and dietary habits

Recent reports and forums in Poland highlight significant challenges regarding dietary habits and food waste. The Good Food Forum, involving over 150 experts, addressed the gap between nutritional knowledge and daily practice, noting that convenience and time constraints often dictate food choices.

Data from Norstat Polska reveals that approximately 4.8 million tons of food are wasted annually in Poland, with households accounting for 60% of this total. The most frequently discarded items include fruits (48%), vegetables (45%), and bread (41%), primarily due to spoilage. While many consumers express awareness of how to reduce waste, only 31% consistently use shopping lists to manage their purchases.

Additionally, nutritional guidance emphasizes mindful consumption, such as monitoring sugar intake in sweets like chocolate to align with World Health Organization recommendations, and recognizing that pests in dry goods can be introduced via retail products rather than poor household hygiene.
