Good Good and Callaway Golf face fallout after controversial advertisement
The golf YouTube group Good Good and equipment manufacturer Callaway Golf are facing significant fallout following a controversial advertisement. The video, which depicted a male golfer shoving a woman to the ground, was intended as a parody but drew widespread backlash for appearing to promote violence against women.
In the wake of the scandal, several executives have departed, including Good Good’s Vice President of Brand and Marketing, Jeffrey Lefkovits, and Callaway’s Director of Content and Production, Alex Upegui. The controversy has led to economic repercussions, including the removal of Good Good merchandise from major retailers such as Dick’s Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy, as well as the group stepping back from its title sponsorship of a PGA Tour event.
Relations between the two companies have soured significantly. Good Good CEO Matt Kendrick accused Callaway of attempting to make the creator group a scapegoat, alleging that Callaway had approved the content before posting it and subsequently launched a coordinated media campaign to distance itself. Callaway has since announced a one-million-dollar donation to organizations supporting survivors of violence against women.
