Good Neighbors Theatre receives $40,000 grant for facility upgrades

Good Neighbors Theatre is utilizing a $40,000 grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission Rural Arts Facility Fund to perform essential structural repairs and safety upgrades. The funding will address critical needs for the facility, which was constructed in the 1970s, including the installation of emergency exit doors with crash bars, flooring repairs, and the replacement of exterior siding.

Board of Directors President Megan Mertsock noted that the theater operates on an annual budget of approximately $50,000 to $60,000, covering four productions and basic monthly expenses. Because the organization relies heavily on ticket sales and local sponsorships, there is limited funding available for major maintenance. The current renovations also include replacing old carpeting with luxury vinyl flooring to improve durability in high-traffic areas.
