Good Party fined for undisclosed R900,000 election donation

The Electoral Court has fined the Good Party R50,000 for failing to disclose a R900,000 donation used for campaign materials during the 2021 local government elections. The court also issued a joint fine of R40,000 to the party’s secretary-general and accounting officer, Brett Herron, for failing to account for the income.

Additionally, Electrox Properties was fined R40,000 for failing to disclose the payment it made on the party’s behalf. The court determined that the R900,000 payment to a company linked to a campaign material supplier constituted a donation, despite denials from both the Good Party and Electrox Properties. The matter was brought to light following a complaint by former party member Shaun August, supported by an investigation from the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC).
