Google acknowledges potential errors in AI Overviews

Google has acknowledged that its AI-generated summaries, known as AI Overviews, can make mistakes and will inevitably do so. These summaries appear at the top of search results when the company's systems determine that generative AI may be particularly useful for a query. While these overviews include links to source material, Google notes that citing a source does not guarantee the AI has correctly interpreted the content.

Users currently lack a general setting to disable AI Overviews. However, those wishing to view only traditional text links can utilize the ‘Web’ filter to bypass generative features.

In addition to AI Overviews, Google has introduced ‘AI Mode,’ a conversational feature that uses a ‘search branching’ technique to break complex questions into subtopics and synthesize results. This feature, along with AI Overviews, is available in several regions, including Spain, supporting multiple languages.
